Lewis "Lew" Wallace was a lawyer, governor, Union general in the American Civil War, and American statesman. He is best remembered for Ben-Hur, an historical fiction set amongst the characters of the New Testament. It was America's best selling novel for nearly sixty years after it's publication.

Two British ex-soldiers find adventure in Kafiristan which is now part of Afghanistan

The story was inspired by real life characters who became the Rajah of Sarawak in Boreno and the Prince of Ghor.

In 1975 the story was made into a John Huston film starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine.

The books tells the true story of attacks by man-eating lions on the Uganda railway in Tsavo Kenya in 1898. Over one hundred people were killed in under a year. The attacks stopped only after the all the lions had been tracked down and killed by Patterson.

In the 1996 film The Ghost and the Darkness Val Kilmer played Patterson.

Lessig's "Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace" was published in 1999. The book quickly began to define a certain vocabulary for thinking about the regulation of cyberspace. More than any other social space, cyberspace would be controlled or not depending upon the architecture, or "code," of that space. And that meant regulators, and those seeking to protect cyberspace from at least some forms of regulation, needed to focus not just upon the work of legislators, but also the work of technologists.

Code v2 updates the original work. It is not, as Lessig writes in the preface, a "new work." Written in part collectively, through a Wiki hosted by JotSpot, the aim of the update was to recast the argument in the current context, and to clarify the argument where necessary.
