Call of the Wild is London's most read book. The protagonist is a dog, but the themes and action are quite dark as it tells of the misadventures of 'Buck' and the breakdown of his domestication after he is kidnapped and sold as a sled dog.

Eternal youth and beauty is a temptation hard to resist. But at what price? .The subject of a painting and admired for his beauty, Dorian Gray trades his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Amidst a lifestyle of hedonism and secret lives, he nonetheless manages to maintain the persona of a very proper gentleman in the eyes of society. But his portrait tells a very different story.... Brilliant. Very interesting reading.

Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best selling novel of the nineteenth century. The book is named for the central character and depicts the harsh reality of slavery. The book had such a significant impact that on meeting Stowe, Abraham Lincoln said; "So this is the little lady who made this big war". A product of it's time, the book is interesting also for it's illustration of stereotypes that even abolitionists could not recognise.

A satire on Victorian morals and marriage.
