Lawrence Lessig - "a brilliant agile mind - absolutely extraordinarily prolific writer and speaker and above all an advocate for all the right things"

"If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of a thinking power called an idea ... no one possesses the less of it because every other possesses the whole of it ... as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening mine" -- Thomas Jefferson

Jane Austen open wikipedia on the author (1775 - 1817)
Emma is the comic novel by Jane Austen that centres around the "handsome, clever and rich", if somewhat spoilt, Emma Woodhouse who fancies herself as a match-maker to her friends. Set in Regency England, comedy ensues as Emma throws herself into the pursuits of love and marriage for others whilst herself remaining apparently immune to the charms of the opposite sex. Witty and charming - quintessential Jane Austen.

Code v2 open wikipedia on the title http://codev2.cc/
Lawrence Lessig open wikipedia on the author ( - ) http://www.lessig.org/

Lessig's "Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace" was published in 1999. The book quickly began to define a certain vocabulary for thinking about the regulation of cyberspace. More than any other social space, cyberspace would be controlled or not depending upon the architecture, or "code," of that space. And that meant regulators, and those seeking to protect cyberspace from at least some forms of regulation, needed to focus not just upon the work of legislators, but also the work of technologists.

Code v2 updates the original work. It is not, as Lessig writes in the preface, a "new work." Written in part collectively, through a Wiki hosted by JotSpot, the aim of the update was to recast the argument in the current context, and to clarify the argument where necessary.

An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (vol 1) open wikipedia on the title
John Locke open wikipedia on the author (1632 - 1704)
This essay is Locke's most famous work. It concerns that nature of human knowledge and understanding. It was one of the primary sources for empiricism, influenced many enlightenment philosophers like David Hume and Bishop Berkeley. The main thrust of the essay is that man does not have innate ideas or principals, that all are developed by experience. Volume one is devoted to disproving the theory of innate ideas. Volume two shows how ideas, principals, and morals are formed from experience.

Charles Dickens open wikipedia on the author (1812 - 1870)
Blackmail, kidnapping, revenge Barnaby Rudge is part suspenseful mystery and part historical novel. Based on the Gordon Riots of June 1780, which culminated in the storming and destruction of the Newgate Prison, we recount these events through the eyes of the kind but simple-minded title character, Barnaby Rudge. Powerful, gripping read.
